Form an organizing team, to ensure necessary coverage of the entire campus
Gather feedback on whether a union is wanted
Sign membership authorization cards
If 50% plus one employee sign membership authorization cards, card check (AKA majority sign-up) can be invoked and cards would be submitted to the labor board and our union would automatically be recognized. Now we have the power of collective bargaining.
What is collective bargaining?
We begin contract negotiations or bargaining. In this contract, the terms and conditions of our employment will be determined through negotiations between the employer (i.e. UCHC administration) and employees (i.e. Union representatives). Once a contract is agreed upon by both sides, all members of the union would vote on whether to accept or reject the contract.
Contract negotiations = Bargaining
The bargaining committee, chosen by the members of the union, will research, plan and get feedback from members to establish bargaining goals. Once bargaining goals are established the bargaining committee will chose representatives to be present at the table during negotiations. Union professionals will be present to aid union representatives in bargaining. The bargaining process can be a lengthy, but we expect UCHC to negotiate in good faith to establish a contract we both agree on.
